At Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Texas (BGCTX), nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our youth. BGCTX follows the guidance and expertise of local, state, and national health officials to help protect our Boys & Girls Club members, their families, and our employees from all communicable diseases.
Based on recent cases of Coronavirus in Travis and Bell County, school districts in the Austin and Round Rock area have closed. Georgetown ISD is on spring break next week which provides the time they will need to continue with sanitation procedures and monitor the situation. In most cases, our community Clubs follow the leads from our school districts. In the situation of GISD being closed already next week and the Georgetown Club opening for extended hours, Board and staff discussed the safety of our members and what would be in the best interest in keeping everyone healthy. As a result, the Georgetown Boys & Girls Club will be closed next week.
We are fully aware of the impact this will have on so many of you depending on the care of your loved one. Please know this was not a decision we took lightly, but felt the safety of our youth and families must be our first priority.
In an effort to help in any way we can, staff have prepared backpacks of non-perishable items that you can pick up in the front office. Most communities have moved to a level 2 in an effort to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. The following recommendations may help you and your family make decisions during the next week as well;
- Encourage your kids to wash their hands frequently
- Ramp up cleaning efforts that include frequently touched surfaces as well as less frequently used areas
- Potentially limit all unnecessary travel
- Potentially limit large gatherings
- Potentially limit/restrict outside visitors and guests
- Potentially limit outside food deliveries
- Stay home if you or anyone in your family feels sick
Thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter and for helping us keep our kids and community safe and healthy.
