Good Character & Citizenship

Help youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire the skills to participate in the democratic process. These programs also help participants develop leadership skills and gain opportunities for planning, decision-making, and Club/community engagement.

Our Goal: To Develop 21st Century Leaders
  • A comparison of Boys & Girls Club of America's National Youth Outcomes Initiative and Monitoring the Future Surveys reveals that regularly attending club members in eighth, tenth, and twelfth grades have significantly higher rates of volunteering than their same-grade peers nationally. By twelfth grade, almost twice as many Club members report that they volunteer at least monthly (68%) than their peers (39%).
  • The NYOI survey asks about club members' level of concern for others and community: 92% say they try to help when they see people in need, and 87% say they believe they can make a difference in the community.
  • Regarding leadership behaviors, 91% of NYOI survey respondents say they can stand up for what is right, even if their friends disagree.
